Patrick's Large Member Storage Resolution FAP
TLDR: This is a quick and dirty repeat of the plan I suggested for emptying long term projects on March 5th. Since I have 10 minutes to get this on the ballot with the board election, This email is just a copy of my proposal, with minor edits and a dollar value.
This FAP is for $1,000 for a dumpster, truck rental, and possible dump fees. This is most likely way more than will be used, I just don't have time to look up dumpster costs and truck rentals before the midnight deadline. This also involves a policy change on long term project storage. This is a policy not a bylaw, and is intended as a baseline, minor tweaks by the board are expected.
Sorry for any discontinuity, I've run out of time, the rest is cut and paste.
Long term storage is a mess, and has been harboring projects and items that have not been used for years, even before the pandemic. I'm proposing the following actions and policy changes.
I propose a complete do-over. We treat that entire area (including the surrounding wood/metal storage) as if we were moving. All projects and items must leave. No exceptions. The area will be completely emptied. All shelves will be vacated.
In order to facilitate this, I propose that on March 5th, 2022 LVL1 rents a truck and/or a dumpster as needed via this FAP. Anyone with a project that they can't transport can have the project transported anywhere in the area. Any projects they cannot find a home for are taken to the dump. Items that wish to be delivered MUST be labeled with a name and phone number by March 3rd, 2022. Everything not labeled will be dumped.
The date is chosen far enough in the future that there are no excuses for not clearing the shelf. The 5th pandemic wave should be in decline by then. If you or the location desired are not available on the day the truck is rented, then arrange to have it moved before that date. If you can't handle that in the next 3 months, then you're clearly not the type of person who will ever finish the project, and we'll just be giving you a reality check by throwing it out.
Any kind of continuous group/team projects can request on the member's list to use a shelf long term. At the moment, the only one I can think of is PowerWheels, and their storage needs an extreme paring down, so maybe 1 shelf and the area underneath it, maximum.
The same amount of storage could be given to the LVL1 outreach items. Exceptions can be made for projects that are extravagantly awesome. Other solutions can be had for items that are only used once or twice a year. For example, the battleship project (if it's still there/works) takes up an extreme amount of space, a platform hoisted up to the ceiling would work better since it doesn't need constant access.
Any metal or wood kept needs to be large pieces. Anything that made the move from the old space gets scrapped.
Large project storage will require notification on the mailing list of intended use, a start AND A REASONABLE END DATE for the storage, name and phone number of the responsible party. Any project not following this will be moved into the boneyard or trash without notice. Anything more than a week after the end date will be considered fair game for the same treatment unless a notification is posted to the mailing list and the note is updated. No more than 3 reasonable extensions are allowed.
End dates need to be reasonable for the type of project. A month is reasonable for a transforming speedboat/breakdancing robot, not for a wooden table. 3 months is reasonable for making the project somewhere else.
If we are running out of large project storage and there is an objection, then extensions will not be allowed except in extreme circumstances. Patrick Joyce --
