    • Ductless indoor units rely on gravity for drainage. If the indoor wall-mounting plate is uneven, water will pool at the wrong end of the internal drain pan and spill over the front trim.
    • How to fix:
      • Place a bubble level along the bottom edge of the indoor unit.
      • The unit must be dead level or slightly tilted toward the side where the drain line exits. If it tilts away from the drain hose side, lift/adjust the unit on its mounting hooks to level it.

    • The drain line running through the wall sleeve or line set cover must maintain a continuous downward slope (at least 1/4 inch of fall per foot).
    • How to fix:
      • Trace the line from behind the indoor unit out through the wall.
      • Ensure there are no saggy dips, low spots, or upward bends. Any high/low spots create a trap that holds water and stops gravity flow.
      • Note: If your installation route must run horizontally for a long distance or climb upwards, you must install an external mini-split condensate pump.
  • Step 4: Clean Dirty Air Filters
    • If the mesh air filters are matted with dust or lint, airflow across the evaporator coil drops significantly. This causes the coil temperature to plunge, creating excessive ice formation. When the unit cycles off or defrosts, that mass of ice melts faster than the drain pan can catch it, causing water to spill over.
    • How to fix:
      • Flip open the front panel on the indoor head.
      • Slide out the washable air filters.
      • Wash them thoroughly with warm water and mild soap, let them dry completely, and reinstall them.
  • Step 5: Check for Ice on the Evaporator Coil
