Welcome

to LVL1! Louisville's Premier Hackerspace

"Where am I and What is this place?"

  • A community Hackerspace that operates as a treehouse for hackers, tinkerers and creative minds of Louisville to work on their projects together.
  • Everything around you was put there by someone caring enough to leave it behind for the next, from familiar equipment and useful materials to things you've never seen before.

"How Can I Get involved and Use the Space??"

  • 1.Sign the waiver - We have dangerous tools that can cause serious injury if not used correctly/carefully. We're not responsible if you hurt yourself with them but we are happy to help you learn!
  • 2.Return to Hack with us, LVL1 is open when members are present to host and we are available for you to do cool things here without any obligation but to be Excellent to each other.
    • We try to be here at regular times to help you schedule your return, join us for events on our CALENDAR

How to Care:

  • Meet People, Teach a skill, Clean a Mess, Pay Dues, Take Action, Make Suggestions, Solve Problems, Fix, Replace & Add Things
  • We function as a shared public space where everyone gets to decide what happens and make cool projects together. We vote on complicated ideas and use the DO-ocracy to achieve our goals.
    • this takes a little extra patience, tact & consideration of your fellow hacker.
  • Leave the Space in better condition than when you arrived

Become a Member

  • Take on the extra responsibility to Care for the space alongside everyone in exchange for:
    • 24 hour access, Personal Shelf Space, Voting rights, Access to Organize Events,

    • Reminder of general expectations - 1st option should be to take your active projects with you on your way out, 2nd option should be to store them on your member shelf, 3rd option should be to stow them out of the way of shared working areas so that as much horizontal real estate can remain available to the next fellow hacker.

Broken/Equipment Report

  • Learn as much as you can, ask questions and find out the best practices to keep our available equipment in service.
  • If something is broken or needs to be replaced, please send an email to broken@lvl1.org.
  • Please supply as much information as possible; links to websites or items are GREATLY appreciated. Consumables can be time-consuming to find; broken is not a mind reader!

Currently Broken * Water recently appeared again in multiple places

    • Rainwater enters the laser exhaust and leaks onto the floor out of the blower ($200 replacement)
    • Excess condensate not being pumped out of the wood/metal shop mini split AC units, especially the woodshop needs to be cleaned out at a higher frequency let's try to do this once/month to prevent moisture from wrecking projects and equipment.
