* This belt and disk sander is a relatively safe tool, but the motor is strong enough and the sandpaper coarse enough to chew your finger in a fraction of a second.

* '''Hold your hands on both sides of the cut line and clear of the blade.''' If a small piece of waste is being cut off, keep both hands on the main piece. If your hands are on the small waste piece they may slip into the blade as the piece is released by the cut.

* '''Always wear safety glasses.''' If you haven’t used a band saw before, make practice cuts on scrap softwood stock and then try hardwood scraps.

As discussed, the loaner Craftsman Model 113.225831 Belt and Disk Sander (with legs and motor) uses the following sandpaper belt/disk sizes:

- 6" x 48" sanding belt

  - 9" dia. sanding disk

I don't have a strong opinion for the range of sandpaper grits and materials to get.  Maybe a few of each to start with and see what we like? Also there are different disk mounting setups to consider; hook-and-loop, self-adhesive, and DIY (no-adhesive).
