Update (1/18/12): I spoke with a non-profit CPA to get some advice. Although our current IRS agent is non-responsive, we are advised not to provoke a responsible but continue to be polite. There are no IRS deadlines for processing these applications. I will continue to leave nice messages and hope to reach our agent. In the interim, it was suggested that I contact our local IRS office to get information of what our current 'status' is. I will follow-up on this and proceed accordingly. Josh has provided some contacts for legal representation, if it becomes necessary. -C

Update (1/20/12): I spoke with a tax advocate representative with the IRS. I explained the situation that we have not heard from our agent in months, despite repeated voicemails. She put a request in 'the system' to have our agent return my call to my personal cell phone. They are required to respond within 10 business days. -C

Director Goals

During our first meeting of 2012, we all discussed the idea of each of the directors spending the next few weeks thinking about some specific aspects of LVL1 that they would like focus on improving and set some actions in place to help do so. These aspects should be related to those that directly relate to our Mission Statement, like Membership growth, Space Safety, Space HAPPINESS?, community involvement, etc.. The directors are not necessarily responsible for completing these goals but should take some initiative to make sure there is always some progress happening on these projects. (The idea is to NEVER exclude members from these projects or any other, but rather highly encourage any and all members to be involoved)

Get Business Cards for LVL1

We need to get prices and explore the options of getting directors personalized business cards as well as general business cards that can be used by all members of the space to help promote LVL1. The president of LVL1 needs to have personalized business cards at all times.

  • Get price quotes for Generic Non-personalized cards
  • Get prices for personalized cards

Create LVL1 Wiki Directors Pages

  • (Jon Strike-through on 1/18)

We need to make some pages that will help the directors document and track the issues and task we are working on. These pages will also serve as a means to make these discussions and actions available to the all the members of LVL1 as well

Things to Do (Future/Plan)

New Member Automation

Automation of all actions required to take place upon the registration of a new member.

Visitor Registration Automation

System for collecting visitor information. Possible solutions include touch screen form at front door.

Visitor Follow-Up

Process by which we can follow up with visitors in an effort to find out what they thought about the space. We want this to be as non-invasive as possible.

Re-vamping the LVL1 "Store" items. Removing of low-cost "consumables" and including more "Kit" based items.

I'm in the process of talking to Jeff about this. In the next couple of weeks, I'll probably take over control of the store. --Bluyster 13:24, 19 January 2012 (EST)

Directors Goals

Directors: If you decide there is an area you would like to focus on then add it here.

  • Finalize 501c(3)
  • Get heat in the upstairs loft to make it usable
  • Increase our membership number to > 50 before 2013
  • Push a culture of respectfulness (cleanliness, helpfulness, less hurt feelings)

I would like to dedicate a majority of my time as a Director on improving the functionality and atmosphere of the space. I believe in having a very open, do-what-you-want, type of environment at Lvl1, but think there is a lot we can do to make everyone's time at the space more efficient and enjoyable. No one wants to spend half of their "LVL1 time" looking for items, cleaning others messes, or feeling in any other way, less then enthusiastic about visiting the space.

I also think the quality of our space, and functions of our space have a great impact on visitors and potential members. Visitors should see a community that works together to function in a way that makes them want to be a part of our super awesomeness. I think we could use some improvement in these areas as we continue to grow. With that being said, I would describe my "Directors" goal to be the following:

Area of Focus: "Quality of Life" @ the Space

Goals (Ordered in Priority):

  • Finish implementing and setting up the Donations,Equipment, and Loans Guidelines.
  • Work on implementing volunteer basis chore assistance.
  • Create and Encourage "Permanent Project" displays
  • Refine and Revive Area Host System

I like to believe the LVL1 is an open environment that encourages people to do awesome things. Currently as a group we are spending too much of the time wondering where do I find this tool or this widget. Wondering who is this person can make people feel uncomfortable and unsafe, while not completely unavoidable we can take steps to keep people informed of new members. The fact that you can get help with almost anything should be flaunted as a resource, more than any tool.

Area of Focus: "What is it and what is going on"

  • Better display of resources available to LVL1 Members and to guests
  • documentation and labeling of equipment and resources
  • make new member introductions and documentation more automated.
  • Listing things everyone is good at and are willing to help with.
