*Voluntary Suspension of Voting Rights
Those members who do not wish to be included in voting matters may voluntarily suspend their own voting rights by notifying the secretary in writing or electronically. Members who suspend this right retain all other benefits and responsibilities of membership, but will not count as an existing member only in matters of establishing quorum. Voting rights can be reclaimed at any time by notifying the secretary or by casting a vote on any issue, and from that point on they shall remain counted towards quorum unless and until they voluntarily suspend their voting rights again.

*Quorum
Quorum for a vote of the membership of LVL1 shall require at least 50% of the existing membership, not including those which have voluntarily suspended their voting rights and those who have been removed from quorum count for inactivity, on the day of the vote. For the purposes of calculating the quorum, properly submitted proxy statements by members shall count as attendance.

*Removal from Quorum count for inactivity
Within 30 days after each annual meeting, the Secretary or Vice President shall send notice to all members who have not voted in the preceding two board elections notifying them that they will no longer be counted towards quorum unless they notify the Secretary within 30 days. Those members who do not respond affirmatively within 30 days will no longer count towards quorum. Those members can restore their quorum count by notifying the Secretary or by voting in the next board election.

So, the more reasonable/extensive your safety program is, the better (both in terms of decreasing the number of incidents and being able to prove you acted reasonably if there is an incident). Record keeping in regard to safety is very important. If you have a great program but can’t prove what you did and when you did it in regard to safety, you don’t really have a program at all J. Keeping equipment inspected and in good repair, and keeping records of that, is a very good idea. Probably good idea to have a single person or group in charge of safety so that there is a central repository of that knowledge and data. That person or group should probably keep up to date on the latest trends in safety at similar workshops around the country (if possible).

<pre style="color: red; font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; font-size: 24pt">VERY EXTREMELY IMPORTANT LASER ODOR GUIDELINES</pre>

The laser cutter fumes are filtered by an activated carbon filter before being dumped outside. This carbon filter keeps any fumes from possibly disturbing the neighbor's smoking area. When the carbon filter is used-up, there is a nearly-100% blockage of airflow through the filter. This results in laser fumes filling the space, and LVL1 receiving complaints from other tenants in the building.

Some signs the laser filter is not operating properly:
* Cutting is taking much longer than normal
* The laser is filling with smoke (Normally, ALL SMOKE should exit rapidly)
* The space is filling with fumes

There is an airflow switch installed on the filter which will cause the laser to stop operating if the filter is sufficiently clogged. Although this provides some level of safety, please be aware of the signs of laser filter failure. If you notice laser fumes filling the space, DISCONTINUE the use of the laser, or tell the operator of the laser to discontinue use.

=Important Laser Guidelines=

* Do not use the laser without being trained. Ask questions. If you have any doubts, refrain from lasering.
* If the laser is moved, it must be recalibrated. Laser calibration is a long and difficult process.
* Install the laser tube with the water outlet facing up.
* The laser is intentionally pulled a couple feet from the wall for access.
* The laser control software will not work without the USB dongle installed. This dongle is a $250 device.
* Do not set power higher than 85% or lower than 10%. Higher power simply saturates the power supply and results in no benefit. Lower power does not lase.
* If a fire begins, open the laser lid immediately. This interrupts power to the laser.

# Turn on the laser.

# Jog the Z Axis until your material will fit under the laser head.
# Jog the home switch of the laser head over your material. Ensure the laser is in "Jog" mode by pressing "Esc" under no menu items are selected.
# Home the Z Axis by pressing the "Z 0" button. The Z axis will automatically back off to the correct focus point.
# Open the "Laser Cut Table" software on the laser PC.
# Import your project, or draw a test shape. (It is HIGHLY recommended that you test your cut settings on scrap material before attempting a real cut).
# In the upper right-hand corner, set the laser power and speed settings. Use the settings in the manual as a guideline.
# Click "Calculate" to generate G-Code.
# Click "Download" to send G-Code to the laser.
# On the "Download" menu, press, "Delete All," followed by "Download Current." This ensures that your project is the only one loaded on the laser.
# Jog the laser head to the upper-right corner of your intended cut area.
# Press the "Test" button to see the area that will be cut by the laser. Ensure that your material is lined up correctly.
# Close the lid of the laser.
# Press "Start" to begin cutting.

= About =

* 80 Watt Laser
* 1200 mm x 900 mm cutting area (~4'x3')
* Currently configured with a Standard 55mm Focal Depth lens.
** This is a "Compromise" lens: Okay at cutting, okay at engraving, but great at neither.
** We have a "Premium" 55mm lens in stock also.

=Important Laser Guidelines=

* Do not use the laser without being trained. Ask questions. If you have any doubts, refrain from lasering.
* If the laser is moved, it must be recalibrated. Laser calibration is a long and difficult process.
* Install the laser tube with the water outlet facing up.
* The laser is intentionally pulled a couple feet from the wall for access.
* The laser control software will not work without the USB dongle installed. This dongle is a $250 device.
* Do not set power higher than 85% or lower than 10%. Higher power simply saturates the power supply and results in no benefit. Lower power does not lase.
* If a fire begins, open the laser lid immediately. This interrupts power to the laser.

=How to use the Laser in Table mode=

# Turn on the laser.
# Home the X and Y Axes by pressing the "X-Y 0" button. If the laser doesn't home, ensure that the machine is not in "Jog" mode. If any menu item is highlighted, the machine is not in "Jog" mode.
# Jog the Z Axis until your material will fit under the laser head.
# Jog the home switch of the laser head over your material. Ensure the laser is in "Jog" mode by pressing "Esc" under no menu items are selected.
# Home the Z Axis by pressing the "Z 0" button. The Z axis will automatically back off to the correct focus point.
# Open the "Laser Cut Table" software on the laser PC.
# Import your project, or draw a test shape. (It is HIGHLY recommended that you test your cut settings on scrap material before attempting a real cut).
# In the upper right-hand corner, set the laser power and speed settings. Use the settings in the manual as a guideline.
# Click "Calculate" to generate G-Code.
# Click "Download" to send G-Code to the laser.
# On the "Download" menu, press, "Delete All," followed by "Download Current." This ensures that your project is the only one loaded on the laser.
# Jog the laser head to the upper-right corner of your intended cut area.
# Press the "Test" button to see the area that will be cut by the laser. Ensure that your material is lined up correctly.
# Close the lid of the laser.
# Press "Start" to begin cutting.

= About =

* 80 Watt Laser
* 1200 mm x 900 mm cutting area (~4'x3')
* Currently configured with a Standard 55mm Focal Depth lens.
** This is a "Compromise" lens: Okay at cutting, okay at engraving, but great at neither.
** We have a "Premium" 55mm lens in stock also.

=Important Laser Guidelines=

* Do not use the laser without being trained. Ask questions. If you have any doubts, refrain from lasering.
* If the laser is moved, it must be recalibrated. Laser calibration is a long and difficult process.
* Install the laser tube with the water outlet facing up.
* The laser is intentionally pulled a couple feet from the wall for access.
* The laser control software will not work without the USB dongle installed. This dongle is a $250 device.
* Do not set power higher than 85% or lower than 10%. Higher power simply saturates the power supply and results in no benefit. Lower power does not lase.
* If a fire begins, open the laser lid immediately. This interrupts power to the laser.

=How to use the Laser in Table mode=

# Turn on the laser.
# Home the X and Y Axes by pressing the "X-Y 0" button. If the laser doesn't home, ensure that the machine is not in "Jog" mode. If any menu item is highlighted, the machine is not in "Jog" mode.
# Jog the Z Axis until your material will fit under the laser head.
# Jog the home switch of the laser head over your material. Ensure the laser is in "Jog" mode by pressing "Esc" under no menu items are selected.
# Home the Z Axis by pressing the "Z 0" button. The Z axis will automatically back off to the correct focus point.
# Open the "Laser Cut Table" software on the laser PC.
# Import your project, or draw a test shape. (It is HIGHLY recommended that you test your cut settings on scrap material before attempting a real cut).
# In the upper right-hand corner, set the laser power and speed settings. Use the settings in the manual as a guideline.
# Click "Calculate" to generate G-Code.
# Click "Download" to send G-Code to the laser.
# On the "Download" menu, press, "Delete All," followed by "Download Current." This ensures that your project is the only one loaded on the laser.
# Jog the laser head to the upper-right corner of your intended cut area.
# Press the "Test" button to see the area that will be cut by the laser. Ensure that your material is lined up correctly.
# Close the lid of the laser.
# Press "Start" to begin cutting.

=Troubleshooting=
* If "Immediate" mode doesn't seem to work properly, try downloading the config again.
** From the "Download" menu, press the "Download Config" button. The laser will be unresponsive for a few moments. Wait until the menu responds to input before uploading your laser file.

= Door information =

* The front door uses a keypad lock attached to the RFID system. The keypad has no function, all functions are controlled by the RFID system.
* The side door uses an electric strike attached to the RFID system.
* The back door uses a magnetic lock attached to the RFID system. Due to the construction of the doors, one door is "active" and controlled by an IR sensor from the inside. The other door is "inactive." In order to open both doors at this time, you must unplug power to the magnets.
* The LVL1 door is using a custom access control system designed by Brad Luyster
